Top 7 Traits of Successful Business Leaders

What does it take to become a successful leader in business? There are many traits that people associate with being a good business leader, but some are more important than others. Ultimately, if you want to end up being good at being in charge you will almost certainly have to develop some or all of these traits.

Persistence

For many great business leaders it all starts with the power to persevere. Persistence pays off in the business world, no matter what the industry or your position. Many of the world’s most successful business leaders failed many times before they finally reached the pinnacle of success. Therefore, you have to be willing to try, try and try again to be a good business leader.

Thick-skinned

There will always be someone who will tell you, you can’t, that your ideas are lousy and that you’ll never succeed. However, being able to ignore the naysayers and look past the criticism is a key component to becoming a successful leader. You can’t quit just because someone says you’re no good.

Surround yourself with talent

Most successful business leaders realize they can’t do it alone. Many of the top leaders have a great eye for talent and they do what it takes to hire them. If you want to be great then surround yourself with other great people.

No Complacency

Every business leaders wants to see his or her company become successful. However, great leaders don’t stop once they’ve arrived. In fact, whether you’re looking for power, money or just the satisfaction of being on top, a good leader actually never feels like he or she has arrived. Business leaders understand that you have to keep striving to achieve more and never feel satisfied with your past achievements.

No Fear

What’s the biggest deterrent to success? Fear. If you’re afraid of failure you will never be successful because you’ll never take the necessary risk to find success. That means you have to be willing to think outside the box and then leave the box once you’ve come up with those new ideas. Many people get stuck in their comfort zone and never end up taking the necessary risks to become truly successful. So give up fear and forge ahead.

Taking Responsibility

No one is perfect and good leaders understand that the people they work with will make mistakes. A good leader also needs to understand that he or she is going to make mistakes and that one needs to accept those mistakes as well. The key is to take those mistakes and learn from them. So, if you mess up, admit it, sincerely apologize and do whatever you can to make amends. You’ll earn the respect of those you hurt.

Get Tough

Any good leader understands that it takes a lot of tenacity and toughness to achieve lasting success. In other words, you have to be prepared to battle for your victories. The business world is a tough place and if you’re not prepared to put up a fight then someone else will knock you down and take the prize. So get tough and be ready to fight.

The American Dreams show was the brainchild of Alan Olsen, CPA, MBA. It was originally created to fill a specific need; often inexperienced entrepreneurs lacked basic information about raising capital and how to successfully start a business.

Alan sincerely wanted to respond to the many requests from aspiring entrepreneurs asking for the information and introductions they needed. But he had to find a way to help in which his venture capital clients and friends would not mind.

The American Dreams show became the solution, first as a radio show and now with YouTube videos as well. Always respectful of interview guest’s time, he’s able to give access to individuals information and inspiration previously inaccessible to the first-time entrepreneurs who need it most.

They can listen to venture capitalists and successful business people explain first-hand, how they got to where they are, how to start a company, how to overcome challenges, how they see the future evolving, opportunities, work-life balance and so much more..

American Dreams discusses many topics from some of the world’s most successful individuals about their secrets to life’s success. Topics from guest have included:

Creating purpose in life / Building a foundation for their life / Solving problems / Finding fulfillment through philanthropy and service / Becoming self-reliant / Enhancing effective leadership / Balancing family and work…
