These Are the Fastest Growing Cities in the U.S.

These are the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and they are not always the biggest cities in the country. Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco are not only large, but also very famous. However, when it comes to growth there are many other cities both large and small that are growing at a much faster rate in 2017. Recently, Forbes posted its annual list of America’s Fastest-Growing Cities. While some of these cities are well known, there are several others that might surprise you.

1. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, FL

After a 3.39% population growth last year, this area is expected to outdo itself this year, with a projected growth rate of 3.61%. That makes the top dog two years in a row on this list.

2. ORLANDO-KISSIMMEE-SANFORD, FL

With expected population growth of 3.14%, Orlando has the second highest growth rate in the country for the second consecutive year.

3. PROVO-OREM, UT

This quiet college town is experiencing amazing growth and it’s expected to increase by another 1.95% this year. GMP and wage growth are also expected to increase over last year’s rate.

4. DELTONA-DAYTONA BEACH-ORMOND BEACH, FL

With a projected population growth of 2.57%and a job growth rate of 3.16% this popular area in Florida is another one of the fastest growing locations in The Sunshine State.

5. JACKSONVILLE, FL

This is the third of six spots in Florida on the list and it’s expected to grow by 1.88% this year, along with a job growth rate increase of 2.59 %. GMP growth and wage growth are also projected to increase over last year.

6. NORTH PORT-SARASOTA-BRADENTON, FL

With a 2.67% growth rate last year, this area is booming and it’s expected to continue this year by another 2.59%, along with a projected GMP growth rate of 5.41%.

7. SEATTLE-TACOMA-BELLEVUE, WA

Heading back to the Pacific Northwest, Seattle and Tacoma are growing at a rapid pace, with expected population growth of 1.38% this year after a 1.56% jump last year. GMP and wage growth are also expected to increase over last year.

8. TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG-CLEARWATER, FL

The first of many spots in the top 10 from Florida, this area grew by 1.65% in 201 and is projected to grow even more this year, by 1.76%.

9. PORTLAND-VANCOUVER-HILLSBORO, OR

This hot spot in the Pacific Northwest is expected to grow at a 1.11% clip in 2017 after jumping up by 1.2% last year. Home price skyrocketed in 2016 by 12.18% and is expected jump another 5.99% this year.

10. SALT LAKE CITY, UT

Coming in at number 10 is Salt Lake, City. It experienced Pop. Growth of 1.24% in 2016 and is projected to grow another 1.23% this year. Job growth is expected to grow by 3.28% in 2017 and wages are expected to increase 7.21%.

The list is based on several factors. In addition to population growth, Forbes also looked at employment numbers, economic output, wages and home prices.
