Three Ways to Improve Your Leadership Potential
Three Ways to Improve Your Leadership Potential
For anyone who desires to be a leader, it can be very difficult to sit back and watch others get promoted ahead of him or her. People are not always put in positions of leadership based on ability or credentials. Often, some of the best potential leaders get passed over for not fault of their own. At the same time, some people in leadership positions have difficulty becoming more successful leaders. The good news is there are things you can do right now to improve your chances of becoming a leader, or of becoming a batter leader. Here are three things you can start working on today to advance your leadership career.
If You Want to Be a Leader, Go After it
Great leaders never sit around for leadership opportunities to come to them. Usually, these opportunities don’t just fall into your lap. You have to go out and actively seek them. You could sit by and complain when you get passed up for leadership roles. Or, you can look for opportunities to lead. You can even create chances to show your leadership skills and abilities. Is there a new project that someone needs to take on? Volunteer. Do you have a great idea that will help the company or your boss? Don’t keep it to yourself. Be aware of any and all opportunities to show off what you can do.
Recognize and Utilize What Makes You Different
Everyone is different. Even great leaders that share some of the same important qualities and attributes are still unique. And you are too. In order to become a great leader it’s vital to recognize and develop your own unique talents and abilities. So start by identifying your natural skills. Evaluate what makes you special and what things you excel in. Then determine how you want to use those talents and abilities to show what you can do. Every one is great at something. So identify your skills then show those skills off like only you can. Find your passion and figure out how you can use it to help your company.
Act Like a Leader
If you want to be a great entrepreneur, then act like a great entrepreneur. The same is true for becoming a great leader. If you want to be a great leader, then act like a great leader. If you want to improve your leadership capacity, then do what great leaders do. So how do you act more like a leader? Start by engaging with others in positive ways. Look for opportunities to inspire others. When you engage with others and connect with them it can impact the entire company. Good leaders also share what they know. They don’t keep things to themselves for fear that others might take credit or move past them. If they have something that will benefit others, they spread the wealth. Great leaders are also ethical. They use their power for good and to influence others positively. They are emotionally intelligent and they are careful with their words. So start doing these things and you will see your leadership skills and opportunities start to grow.

GROCO.com is a proud sponsor of The American Dreams Show.
The American Dreams show was the brainchild of Alan Olsen, CPA, MBA. It was originally created to fill a specific need; often inexperienced entrepreneurs lacked basic information about raising capital and how to successfully start a business.
Alan sincerely wanted to respond to the many requests from aspiring entrepreneurs asking for the information and introductions they needed. But he had to find a way to help in which his venture capital clients and friends would not mind.
The American Dreams show became the solution, first as a radio show and now with YouTube videos as well. Always respectful of interview guest’s time, he’s able to give access to individuals information and inspiration previously inaccessible to the first-time entrepreneurs who need it most.
They can listen to venture capitalists and successful business people explain first-hand, how they got to where they are, how to start a company, how to overcome challenges, how they see the future evolving, opportunities, work-life balance and so much more..
American Dreams discusses many topics from some of the world’s most successful individuals about their secrets to life’s success. Topics from guest have included:
Creating purpose in life / Building a foundation for their life / Solving problems / Finding fulfillment through philanthropy and service / Becoming self-reliant / Enhancing effective leadership / Balancing family and work…

Persistence – Use Good Judgment Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
