Why Do Some Leaders Fail?

Why Do Some Leaders Fail?

Why Do Some Leaders Fail?

Why are some leaders more successful than others? Why is it that some leaders are able to reach the pinnacle of success, while others end up on the scrap heap of leaders gone wrong? There is no secret to success. Some people figure out leadership and others don’t. But why do some leaders fail? These are people that at some point were trusted enough to be put in a leadership position in the first place. Yet, they couldn’t find success in that role. Why not?

What led them to the path of failure?

They Can’t Build Relationships
The problem is, in many cases, people who have excelled at contributing to a company’s accomplishments and success are the ones who get promoted to leadership roles. However, being successful at completing tasks is not the same as being able to lead people. One of the biggest reasons leaders fail is that they do not know how to build and manage relationships. When a leader doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to create strong relationships, chances are they won’t be leaders for long. People don’t want to follow emotionally weak leaders. They don’t like them, they don’t trust them, and they don’t want to work for them.

They Can’t Build Teams
Much like building individual relationships, some leaders have a difficult time building teams. Even if a team is already in place, they don’t know how to lead them. The problem for bad leaders is that they aren’t really sure what a good team looks like. They end up building what they think is a strong team, but they have no idea how to manage it, or how to measure whether or not it’s successful.

They Can’t Adapt to Change
Leaders who end up failing don’t learn to adapt. It’s not that they can’t adapt. It’s that they choose not to adapt, because they don’t see a need for it. In fact, many startup companies fail because the people who lead them refuse to adapt when necessary. People who don’t adapt, rely on their past skills and experiences. They refuse to be flexible in their ways, or they choose not to adopt a new form of leadership style. They also choose not to learn new skills. All of these choices lead to failure. If a leader chooses not to be flexible, he or she is essentially choosing not to remain a leader. Because bad leaders don’t remain leaders for long.

You Have to Learn to Be a Leader
Becoming a great leader is not easy. It takes time and effort, and a willingness to be flexible. Great leaders build relationships. Then, from those relationships, they build effective teams and create other strong leaders. They learn to adapt to changes and they grow from experiences, both positive and negative. Leaders who fail never learn these skills, which is why they never become great leaders. A great leader realizes he or she is only as good as his or her team. So, if you want to become a successful leader, learn to build strong relationships and strong teams, and then learn to be flexible.

The American Dreams show was the brainchild of Alan Olsen, CPA, MBA. It was originally created to fill a specific need; often inexperienced entrepreneurs lacked basic information about raising capital and how to successfully start a business.

Alan sincerely wanted to respond to the many requests from aspiring entrepreneurs asking for the information and introductions they needed. But he had to find a way to help in which his venture capital clients and friends would not mind.

The American Dreams show became the solution, first as a radio show and now with YouTube videos as well. Always respectful of interview guest’s time, he’s able to give access to individuals information and inspiration previously inaccessible to the first-time entrepreneurs who need it most.

They can listen to venture capitalists and successful business people explain first-hand, how they got to where they are, how to start a company, how to overcome challenges, how they see the future evolving, opportunities, work-life balance and so much more..

American Dreams discusses many topics from some of the world’s most successful individuals about their secrets to life’s success. Topics from guest have included:

Creating purpose in life / Building a foundation for their life / Solving problems / Finding fulfillment through philanthropy and service / Becoming self-reliant / Enhancing effective leadership / Balancing family and work…
