I think one of the things that’s very important for parents to be spokespersons to advocates for their children, because I feel that it’s truly a partnership, the school district can come up with ideas, and the state has guidances in terms of Ed code, but I think for parents, they need to make sure that their voice is heard. Now, as a board member, I’m very supportive of the parents voice. And that’s one things I wanted to clarify for the public. Sometimes it’s not that I’m against education, or sex education for the students. But I think that having the proper timeframe and engagement of the parents, so in this situation, the parents were notified on the last day of school, and within four days, it was a parent meeting. And I don’t think that in all fairness, transparency, and and opportunities to look at different resources were provided to the parents. So it was one of two, I was wanting to dismantle this. Yes.
Alan
And you help firm and yes, ultimately?
Lily Mei
The actual the entire board came back in the agreement and consensus in the ends and said that we agreed that it would be unusual in this situation, because we were approving a college level textbook for high schools, freshmen students. And so at this time, the status is that the status is that we’ve pulled the book, we’re using our existing resources and some resources that are actually more current, probably online from CDC, and that we’re working with the publisher to try to revisit and look at addressing standards that are or books or textbooks or additional revisions that would address more appropriate focus on high school needs and their standards that were set for them.
Alan
I think that to me, that represents leadership also, that even though the others were the majority was in a different way you held your ground and great results in the end.
Lily Mei

The American Dreams show was the brainchild of Alan Olsen, CPA, MBA. It was originally created to fill a specific need; often inexperienced entrepreneurs lacked basic information about raising capital and how to successfully start a business.
Alan sincerely wanted to respond to the many requests from aspiring entrepreneurs asking for the information and introductions they needed. But he had to find a way to help in which his venture capital clients and friends would not mind.
The American Dreams show became the solution, first as a radio show and now with YouTube videos as well. Always respectful of interview guest’s time, he’s able to give access to individuals information and inspiration previously inaccessible to the first-time entrepreneurs who need it most.
